From the President:

Dear KASFAA Members-

With the FISAP filed, the annual RMASFAA conference in the rearview mirror, and the days growing ever more chilly, the student aid world moves into the home stretch of yet another calendar year. Whew! Can preparations for spring aid disbursements be far behind? Before moving toward spring, however, I would like to commend all of the numerous KASFAA members who contributed to this year's RMASFAA conference in Wichita, Kansas. True to form, our membership came together to provide RMASFAA members with a wonderful mix of professional development opportunities and uniquely Kansan hospitality. Special thanks to KASFAA's own Cindi Ramaeker and Deb Byers for providing such wonderful leadership in their role as RMASFAA conference chairs.

Congratulations also to KASFAA's newly elected slate of officers. This year's candidates provided the KASFAA membership with some very tough choices to make. Each of the candidates embodied professionalism within our chosen field and a strong commitment to our organization. As announced at our recent state business meeting, our newly elected officers are: President-Elect - Chris Johnson, University of Kansas, Vice President - Chris Christensen, Kansas State University, Secretary - Becca Diskin, Pittsburg State University, Treasurer - Sandy Ludlum, Wichita State University, and Associate Representative-At-Large - Cheryl Bellinger, Bank of America. These individuals will be sworn in at KASFAA's Spring 2002 Conference to be held at the Topeka Capitol Plaza April 3-5.

With pressing student aid issues temporarily squared away, if you're like me, your thoughts may wander to those projects that seem to be in a perpetual state of update/modification. Ye 'ole P&P comes to mind (Policy and Procedures). Fortunately, RMASFAA will provide some much needed training precisely on this topic. Our state's fall decentralized training opportunity on the topic of creating/maintaining your office's policy and procedure manual will be held on November 12th. on the campus of the Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia, Kansas. To register on-line for this timely training opportunity I would encourage you to visit the RMASFAA website at http://www.rmasfaa.org Simply click on the "Training" button and follow the on-line instructions. Tanya McGee, the site coordinator for this training opportunity, would appreciate it if, after having registered on-line, you send her a copy of your registration confirmation.

Since the last e-edition of the Oz-Sociated Press sadly many challenges have befallen our nation. No doubt, our lives will never be quite the same. Still, if we stay focused upon those who fill our lives with purpose and possibility I'm convinced that life's events will never get the best of us.

Take care,
